Circular Quay Tower rises up to 263 metres high, making a distinctive contribution to Sydney’s skyline with its innovative facade featuring a series of external cross-braces derived from structural stress diagrams. This landmark development in one of Sydney’s most prominent harbourside locations demanded robust waterproofing solutions for extensive below-grade structures, ensuring protection in a complex construction environment adjacent to Circular Quay. The project’s architectural ambition and structural complexity required versatile systems capable of adapting to challenging site conditions.
To meet the highest performance and sustainability standards, the project focused on:
- Delivering reliable blindside waterproofing protection for below-grade structures in a constrained harbourside construction site
- Providing pre-applied membrane systems that form continuous bonds with structural concrete during placement
- Ensuring trafficable protection during steel-fixing operations to maintain construction efficiency on a complex high-rise project
Envirosystems Solution
Multiple Enviro solutions were deployed across Circular Quay Tower, with Enviro BSM serving as the primary blindside waterproofing system. This pre-applied composite HDPE sheet membrane is specifically designed to waterproof the blind side of concrete slabs and walls in below-grade applications.
Enviro BSM comprises three integrated layers: a heavy-duty HDPE layer providing core waterproofing integrity, a pressure-sensitive reactive adhesion layer that activates during concrete placement to form a continuous bond with structural concrete, and a trafficable protective layer that shields the membrane during steel-fixing operations prior to concrete casting. When applied systematically, this complete solution delivers versatile and innovative waterproofing protection for complex below-grade structures, proving ideally suited to the demanding construction requirements of this prominent Sydney landmark.
